Lance Abbott to chair CICA 2021 board

Lance Abbott, CEO of BevCap Management, has been appointed as chair of the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) board of directors for another term.

Abbott co-founded BevCap Management in 2008 to manage BevCap Captive Group, a newly formed homogeneous group insurance captive for beer distributors.

The election results were ratified at a conference call board meeting.

Meanwhile, Renea Louie, vice president of Pro Group Captive Management Services, and Nicholas Hentges, co-CEO of Captive Resources, have been confirmed as 2021 vice president and secretary/treasurer, respectively.

As part of the elections, CICA named Heather McClure, chief risk officer for OU Health, to a three-year term.

McClure directs the operations of OU Medicine and OU Physicians Risk Services Department, serving multiple hospitals with more than 2,000 faculty and resident physicians and medical students at the Oklahoma City and Tulsa campuses.

Returning CICA board members include Courtney Claflin, executive director of captive programmes, University of California, Office of the President; Colin Donovan, president, STICO Mutual Insurance Company; Deyna Feng, director captive programmes, Cummins Risk International; Fredrik Finnman, group risk manager, Sandvik Group; Erin Hackett, senior audit manager, Crowe; Steve McElhiney, senior vice president and director of reinsurance, Artex Risk Solutions; Mary Ellen Moriarty, vice president for property and casualty, EIIA; Michael Scott, attorney, Law Office of Allison & Mosby-Scott; and Michael Zuckerman, assistant professor, Temple University.

Abbott says: “As we enter our second year of living with COVID-19, I am grateful for our supportive CICA members and our resilient organisation. The CICA board has maintained our focus on keeping the organisation strong and reconfiguring how we provide advocacy, education and networking during these rapidly changing times.”

CICA President Dan Towle said: “We are excited to welcome Heather McClure to the board. Her leadership and advocacy for the captive industry are a perfect fit for CICA.”

In February, CICA cancelled its 2021 annual in-person event, scheduled on 14 to 16 March in Scottsdale, Arizona.
