The Pan-Asia Risk and Insurance Management Association (PARIMA) launched its inaugural Next-Gen Risk Takers challenge, a speaking competition designed to empower emerging risk professionals.
Held in Bangkok last week, the competition aligned with PARIMA’s theme this year — ‘The Risk Generation’ — which aims to nurture future risk leaders by providing them with opportunities to engage, learn, and grow within the industry.
More than eight candidates applied for the challenge, with three finalists selected to compete in the final round.
Taking centre stage were Orawan Wannadee, head of risk, compliance, and control at RMA Group Company; Ralph Añes, senior enterprise risk manager at Globe Telecom; and Daisuke Kamei, chief staff manager in the Business Risk Management department at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Each finalist had 15 minutes to deliver a speech and respond to questions from both the judges and the audience. After the round, the judges deliberated and selected Kamei as the winner.
Reflecting on his achievement, Kamei said: “I am honoured and surprised, but this has been an incredible experience for me. It provided an opportunity to reflect on my achievements and recognise what I still need to prove in the future.”
PARIMA president Annacel A. Natividad praised the competition for highlighting fresh perspectives in risk management, noting: “This challenge is more than just a competition; it is a celebration of fresh perspectives and bold ideas in the risk management space.
“The finalists have demonstrated exceptional insights and communication skills, setting a strong precedent for the future of risk leadership.”
Following the success of the inaugural event, PARIMA has announced that the Next-Gen Risk Takers challenge will continue in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 22 May 2025, followed by Hong Kong on 25 September 2025.
