Ocean Falls Blockchain Corporation (OFB) has appointed Barrie McWha to the board of advisors.
In this role, McWha will advise and assist OFB’s management team in guiding the firm’s strategic direction and decision making, particularly concerning OFB’s captive insurance solution, SuretyBlock.
As a wholly-owned subsidiary of OFB, SuretyBlock is a decentralised solution for captive insurance providers that aims to leverage blockchain technology to pool and distribute funds, making self-insurance more accessible to trade associations, organisations and event organisers.
SuretyBlock’s first decentralised product, Eagle1, signed a fronting agreement with Fortress Insurance in March to allow Eagle1 to enlist and serve the above across western Canada.
The decentralised solution, expected to launch in late Q2 2022, is a “Hole-in-One” insurance platform for the golf industry, designed to improve the speed, ease and efficiency in obtaining and issuing custom prize pools and payouts on golf courses and driving ranges.
McWha currently serves as partner at Wedgewood Golf Management, having previously served as a board member of the National Golf Course Owners Association.
Other previous accolades include president of the Manitoba Professional Golfer’s Association (PGA), former president of the PGA of Canada, and board member of the PGA of British Columbia.
Commenting on the appointment, Kevin Day, chief technology officer at OFB and head of SuretyBlock, says: “We are excited to bring on Barrie as a key advisor and partner that will help guide us in our latest decentralised financial product, SuretyBlock. Barrie brings a sharp business acumen and extensive experience in the Canadian golfing industry that will help guide us to our goals for Eagle1 and more.”
