Texas names new insurance commissioner

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Cassie Brown as commissioner of insurance at the Texas Department of Insurance.

The term is set to expire on 1 February 2023.

Brown previously served in the department as commissioner of workers’ compensation, where she was responsible for overseeing the division’s regulation of the state’s workers’ compensation system, as well as enforcement of the Texas Workers’ Compensation Act and administration of self-insurance programmes.

Other previous roles include deputy commissioner for regulatory policy and policy advisor to previous Governor Rick Perry.

Brown also serves on the board of directors for the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions, and is a member of the executive committee for the Southern Association of Workers’ Compensation Administrators.
