CICA reveals essay finalists

The Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) has revealed the three finalist teams in its ‘Captive Insurance Solutions for Emerging Industries’ essay contest for college risk management and insurance students, sponsored by Strategic Risk Solutions (SRS).

The three finalist teams include the home healthcare industry, craft brewing industry, and the cannabis industry.

Marissa Dias and Samantha Kane from Saint Joseph’s University covered the home healthcare industry, while Magda Olivas Carmona and Rudy Martinez from St. Mary’s University covered the craft brewing industry, and finally, Megan Moore and Natalie Kojababian from the University of Southern California covered the cannabis industry.

These finalist teams are invited to attend the CICA 2020 International Conference in Rancho Mirage, California, from 8 to 10 March, where they will receive cash prizes and give presentations on their essays.

For the CICA Essay Contest, two-person student teams selected one of three emerging industry case study topics.

The case studies focused on developing strategies to help fictional organisations in real-world emerging industries develop captive solutions to provide financial stability and the needed coverages for current and emerging risks.

CICA president Dan Towle said: “Our conference sessions with students are some of my favourites. When you bring together bright young minds and the industry’s top leaders, you get an incredible energy that infuses us all with optimism and fresh ideas.”

“Recruiting top talent to become the next generation of captive professionals takes getting captive insurance on students’ radar. This type of contest not only increases awareness, but it also gives them first-hand experience with identifying ways to help businesses with captive insurance,” Towle explained.
