Nevada issues 22 captive licenses in 2017

The Nevada Division of Insurance issued 22 captive licenses last year, according to their 2017 year-end figures.

Of the 22 new captive entities licensed, 18 were pure captives, two were risk retention groups (RRG), one was an agency captive and one was an association captive.

The figures also showed that 19 captives were inactivated in 2017, due to either dissolution, conversion or relocation.

As of 31 December 2017, there were a total of 203 active captives domiciled in Nevada.

Yeraldin Deavila, Nevada Division of Insurance public information officer, said: “Currently, Nevada is seeing a healthy domestic business environment. Captives have and continue to present a viable risk management option.”

She added: “For 2018, the Nevada Division of Insurance expects steady interest by applicants in the Nevada Captive Program, as captives continue to fill an important part of an evolving marketplace.”
