Barker joins ANV Holdings

ANV Holdings, the Dutch headquartered specialty insurance business, has hired Julian Barker as underwriter within its ANV Syndicate 1861 political risk and violence team.

His specific focus within ANV is political violence in emerging markets but he will add additional support across the wider political risks portfolio.

With a strong focus in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East, ANV are specialists in oil and extractive industries and particularly focused on emerging markets.

Products include war on land, terrorism, contract frustration, confiscation and expropriation, and currency inconvertibility for banks, traders and multi-national companies.

“[Barker] brings to ANV more than a decade of experience dedicated specifically to political risks from both a broker and underwriter perspective,” said David James, deputy active underwriter and head of political risk and terror for ANV Syndicate 1861.

“His unique breadth of work and depth of experience will allow him to bring the right balance of both innovative and pragmatic insights to both underwriting as well as new product development. It is a pleasure to have an opportunity to work with [Barker] again.”

Matthew Fairfield, founder and CEO of ANV, commented: “As today’s businesses and cultures become more interconnected and international, the risks tied to political factors become more pervasive and considerable.”

“The political risk and violence team within ANV Syndicate 1861 provides key leadership in this growing area of risk for both ANV as a business as well as the global customers who need advanced and highly specialised protection ”
